Newspaper Club 2024 Gift Guide
We love putting together our gift guide every year – it’s the perfect excuse to browse the brilliant things our customers make and sell!...
As we wrap up 2024, we’re looking back at some of the standout newspapers that came through our presses this year. With so many incredible projects, it was hard to choose, but we’re excited to share 9 of our favourites – from a chic broadsheet for Stella McCartney to Liberty’s tribute to 150 years of textile design, and an exhibition using print to amplify activism.
Whether it’s celebrating design or sparking social change, we hope these examples offer plenty of inspiration for your own creative projects in 2025!
Baby's first newspaper
We can’t get enough of this mini newspaper created by designer Eleanor Downie to celebrate her daughter Lennie’s first year. It’s full of bright colours, hand-drawn illustrations and sweet photos – a wonderful way to mark a special milestone.
Sustainable style
The Stella Times was central to the launch of Stella McCartney’s new vegan handbag. Social media videos featuring the broadsheet teased the bag ahead of its release, with copies later distributed in boutiques and placed on seats at her Paris Fashion Week runway show.
Inside were articles highlighting McCartney’s commitment to cruelty-free craftsmanship, along with playful touches like a crossword puzzle and “Stella Strips” comic.
Illustrated year
British artist Rob Ryan turned our mini newspaper into a delightful 2025 calendar, filled with his intricate illustrations. Printed in a limited edition, each one is hand-numbered and signed. We can't think of a lovelier way to start the new year!
Heritage reimagined
A fabulous little catalogue bursting with 150 years of textile history. This mini newspaper from Liberty showcases a new collection of fabrics reworking their iconic patterns, inspired by artistic movements like 1930s florals and 1950s abstraction. It’s a vibrant celebration of Liberty’s creativity through the years.
Print for change
Gun Sense University is Everytown for Gun Safety, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action’s annual gathering of volunteers and survivors, united in their mission for a future free from gun violence.
This broadsheet, designed by Everytown's creative team, is a tool for advocacy that also brought "levity and joy during an event that can be filled with heavy moments," says art director Sam West. "We had such overwhelmingly positive feedback on the newspaper."
Paint pal
Climate-conscious paint company COAT uses this mini newspaperr as a friendly, informative introduction for new customers. Sent with their sample swatches, the zine answers FAQs and reassures customers that COAT is here to support them every step of the way. It’s a thoughtful touch that makes the painting process feel easier and more inspiring.
Design in action
The exhibition CHARACTERS: Type in Action opened in September at the Museum of Design in Atlanta, exploring the role of typography in social justice movements throughout history.
We were thrilled to sponsor Vocal Civilian, a broadsheet newspaper designed by Vocal Type, Mark Baker Sanchez and creative studio Civilization, translating the show’s message into print. Free copies were available from a newspaper dispenser, inviting visitors to take activism into their own hands and spread the word.
Design connections
Made for the Dundee Design Festival, this tabloid newspaper celebrates 10 years of Dundee as a UNESCO City of Design. Featuring design objects from cities including Bilbao, Detroit and Nagoya, it highlights the power of creativity and collaboration. Designed by Martin Baillie Studio and printed on our tabloids, it’s a wonderful tribute to global design connections.
Mark Anthony Mulligan Songbook
This mini newspaper accompanied an exhibition at the Outsider Art Museum, celebrating the work of Mark Anthony Mulligan. Known for his vibrant cityscapes, Mulligan’s art captures both real and imagined places around his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, often referencing local businesses and friends. The zine also features a selection of his hand-written lyrics, offering a glimpse into his songwriting, which touches on similar themes of community and place.
Daily bread
Wildfarmed, known for regenerative farming methods that build healthy soil and support local wildlife, has been using newspapers since 2022 to keep their audience in the loop. This edition celebrates a major packaged goods launch (maybe you’ve spotted their products at Waitrose or M&S?) and exciting growth in farming and food partnerships. The tabloid newspaper was also the first opportunity to show off their updated brand identity in print.
