Note-worthy news

Every year, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (aka CBSO) plays over 150 concerts across Birmingham, the UK and beyond. To keep audiences in tune with performances and orchestra news, they publish The CBSO Express – a twice-a-year newspaper printed on our traditional tabloids.

“Since we first printed it in August 2023, the response has been overwhelming,” they tell us. “It’s a fun and refreshing way to connect with people. We get content ideas from across the entire organisation and encourage different teams to contribute stories!”

Max Hemphill freelance photographer portfolio

Exposure in print

After six years of sending email newsletters to his clients, freelance photographer Max Hemphill decided to try something different. For his winter update, he collected his recent work for brands like H&M and Knix into a digital tabloid newspaper.

“People are blown away,” says Max. “There’s something about narrowing your focus to a smaller group of aligned clients and making them your priority that really makes an impact. And I’m geeked about it because I love to push myself to present my work in different ways!”

Write on

As part of their “Just Start” campaign, stationery brand Papier launched The Papier Post – a tabloid filled with interviews, essays and advice on turning creative ambitions into action. Designed by their in-house team, it features contributions from Stacey Dooley, Zeena Shah and more.

"We loved going through Newspaper Club’s samples and the care from the support team was incredible. We loved the whole process!"

“A newspaper offers a way to engage people in a more personal way while also serving as guerrilla marketing,” says Holly Chapman, Papier’s head of brand. “We’ve also repurposed the content for our social channels to maximise it, and it’s performed so well – tons of engagement so far!”

The digital broadsheet is filled with stories, poems and reflections on the pub as a place of community. “Both pubs and newspapers have served as spaces for storytelling, debate, and connection, so it was the perfect fit for the installation’s theme,” says Milly. “It’s nostalgic and tactile and invites people to start conversations over a pint. The reactions so far have been incredibly positive and rewarding.”

Living Walls newspaper zine

Creative support

Living Walls, an Atlanta-based public art organisation, created this mini newspaper for their artists and supporters – a thank-you and a practical resource in one. Filled with prompts and reminders, it’s designed to help their community navigate what they expect to be another challenging year for arts organisations.

"The newspaper is truly something I think people will keep coming back to all year."

“Most of our communication is digital, so we’re eager for any chance to take our message off-screen,” says designer Tatiana Bell. “The colours are vibrant, the pages have a pleasing texture and the content encourages people to write and engage directly. It is truly something I think people will keep coming back to all year.”
