Traditionally seen as just a source of news, there is a new trend that involves using newspapers in a fun and creative way... As a prop!
Whether evoking nostalgia or adding a unique visual appeal, newspapers offer a unique charm that stands out from the 'typical props'.
From elevating events, photoshoots, social media campaigns, announcements and more, newspapers make the perfect prop for any occasion. And the best part? You can print your own custom newspaper prop starting with just one copy!
From baby announcements to influencer events, see 9 fun examples below from brands or individuals that have embraced the power of print props!
The photoshoot prop
For a big interview in Pitchfork, British band the 1975 posed with – and then tore to shreds – a series of digital broadsheets announcing their new album.
The photos were taken by veteran music photographer Steve Gullick, who’s previously shot PJ Harvey, Depeche Mode, My Bloody Valentine and many more. A brief but exhilarating brush with fame for our newspapers!
The sale prop
Now THIS is how you make headlines with a sale! ️Monica Vinader nailed it with a combo of print and social media for a standout Black Friday campaign.
They used our digital broadsheets as a prop to set the stage for their online promo, building excitement through a series of newspaper-based videos and photos on their social media platforms.
The campaign prop
Well, if it's good enough for Thierry! The Art of Football and Puma chose a newspaper prop when shooting their new campaign, and our digital broadsheet got to kick it with Thierry Henry (and some handsome goats).
The newspaper went hand-in-hand with the vintage feel of the collection, which celebrated footballing heritage.
The launch prop
Maguire Shoes put their best foot forward with a custom newspaper prop! Our digital broadsheets were chosen to tease their brand new collection launch on social media - then they took things a step further by wrapping flowers in them at the launch event.
The influencer event prop
Hyper Skin made headlines at their recent influencer event with some help from our digital tabloids. Salmon newsprint was the perfect match for their punchy orange and black brand palette and helped set the scene for eye-catching social content.
“There's something extremely charming and nostalgic about a newspaper,” says designer Katrina Romulo. “It was really well-received at the event. Many people took them home!”
The newsworthy prop
When your brand has headline-worthy news, put it in print! When announcing that their best-selling bloating relief remedies were back in stock, British brand Wild Dose opted to use our digital broadsheets to help their statement stand out in a crowded social media space.
The images were posted on their social media feeds, in addition to the physical newspapers being handed out in their local area.
The music video prop
Good storytelling is all about the details. That's something musician Natalie Carr understands - and she wasn't going to let a bad prop undermine her new music video. "It was imperative to me that the newspaper looked real and convincing," she says. "I didn't want anything that looked fake."
Putting our vintage template to use, she printed The Hot Girl Daily on our digital tabloids. Her insistence on prop perfection didn't go unnoticed: "This is the greatest promotional detail I’ve ever seen in a music video," wrote one commenter about the newspaper.
The photoshoot prop
Re-brand news just in! OutRank Marketing have recently re-branded, and the announcement got a little help in the form of our digital broadsheets.
The US-based digital marketing agency used the print as a fun photoshoot prop to announce their exciting news, whilst also listing available services and providing the story behind the rebrand.
The pregnancy announcement prop
Parents-to-be Briana and Alan Chazaro opted for a pregnancy announcement with a difference when sharing their special news with family and friends. “I’d wanted to try Newspaper Club for some time,” says Briana. “So when we got the news I thought, ‘What better way to share than with a newspaper?"
The 4-page digital tabloid prop The Chazaro Times included photos from their pregnancy shoot with photographer Hellena Cedeno, a QR code for “baby’s first playlist” and a custom crossword puzzle.
